After beginning his career at Channel [V] (Star TV) and working in television and film, Amaar spent a considerable amount of time honing a humanistic approach to photography. His long term series on mysticism, made him focus on exploring cultural wisdom within the cultural and metaphysical contexts of Vedic, Yogic and Islamic Tassawuf (Sufism), and posession rituals in the Himalays he weaved through various communities he lived with and photographed intermittently for a period of 20 years.
Amaar has photographed actors like Adrian Brody, Owen Wilson, Bill Murray, Natalie Portman and the cult director Wes Anderson. His work has been published in the New York Times, South China Morning Post, The Guardian’s Club UK magazine.
His film projects and collaborations have released theatrically in Britain, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and on OTT platforms such as Netflix, Amazon, Mubi as an additional cinematographer. He has worked on films made by Wes Anderson “The Darjeeling Ltd”, the Damien Hirst and Julian Lennon produced documentary film “Tawai” (theatrical release) and the documentary “the Songkeepers” (theatrical release) about Australian aboriginal women traveling to Germany to sing choral songs in Aboriginal tongue.
Amaar Directed/ Produced and Photographed the iconic United By Vote Commercial and Print Campaign for Benetton/UCB India, before the 2019 General elections under his production house ‘cineMaMa Films', that had an outreach to 400 million Indians.
Amaar has assisted Michael O Neill a Vanity Fair photographer, who connects back to the lineage of Richard Avedon through Hiro (Yasuhiro Wakabayashi).
He also was a second cinematographer on an Aamir Khan Production, comedy feature film directed by the emmy award winning comedian Vir Das called, "Happy Patel Khatarnak Jasoos".
